High CBD Strains | CBD Indica | CBD Sativa
We realize that many of you may be new to hemp flower, so we thought we would discuss the three main types of high CBD strains: CBD Sativa, CBD Indica and hybrid. We hope this overview will provide some basic info for the hemp flower newbie and maybe even provide some insights to the "CBD OG". So without further ado, let's get into our favorite topic, hemp flowers!
Cannabis and it's THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) legal sister, hemp flower has three main types of hemp flower strains. The different strains of hemp are:
- Sativa
- Indica
- hybrid hemp strains, which is a cross of the previous two.
We will not go into ruderalis or auto flower strains, as those are a slightly different topic all together.
Different Types Of High CBD Strains
CBD Sativa, CBD Indica, and Hybrid that make up hemp are the same in marijuana. Marijuana and hemp are, of course, derived from the same cannabis plant. This means that cannabis strains are the same, whether we're talking about about cannabis marijuana or cannabis hemp.
Plants grown as hemp are legal, while marijuana is not. That's because hemp has a low THC content that makes it non-psychoactive or intoxicating. It's the tetrahydrocannabinol THC in marijuana that makes you high.
Hemp must have low levels of THC to be legal, and as a result, it can't make you "stoned." Hemp still has high levels of CBD, which are the source of most of cannabis' benefits.
What Is Sativa Best Used For?
Sativa is one of the common high CBD strains. It is usually associated with an "up" feeling. As a result, it tends to be used for daytime smoking.
Cannabis sativa hemp plants typically have thin leaves. The bud structure tends to lean towards airy and fluffy.
There are also differences in the terpenes - or compounds found in plants like cannabis that give them their scent. Sativa CBD strains tend to have fruity or floral terpene profiles. This is different from Indica, which lean more towards earthy and gassy flavors.
Sativa hemp flower, like our "Eden" hemp strain, are great for reducing anxiety and lifting your mood when you are in a funk. This is the hemp flower strain for when you just want to put a highlight on your day. Sativa can also help combat fatigue and stress.
If you don't like the sleepy vibes that are usually associated with Indica hemp strains, then we would say Sativa is for you! Sativa peps you up, and can improve low energy.
It can also encourage creativity and focus - some people with ADHD report greater clarity when smoking Sativa. Our Green Dream strain is a great choice to calm your mind and encourage sharp, focused thinking.
Origin Of Sativa
It's worth noting that all sativa cannabis and hemp strains are a result of cannabis Indica being moved from it's place of origin. It was taken from the foothills of the Himalayan mountains and brought to warmer climates like the tropics. As a result, the plants grew taller, sometimes referred to as "stretching." The buds became less dense and exhibited more fragrant, fruit-like terpene profiles. Just a little hemp flower history for you to ponder.
What Is Indica Best Used For?
As previously stated, Indica is the original cannabis plant. The plant species was not originally spread across the globe. It was a local variety, until people began sowing the seeds all over the planet.
In its natural environment, cannabis Indica and Indica CBD flowers grow short and stout with very dense buds. The leaves are wider and thicker. The plant stalks are quite woody and dense as well. This makes sense when you consider the plant had to endure a pretty rugged environment. A hearty plant was necessary to survive weather in foothills of the Himalayas.
Indica high CBD strains tend to have dense bud structures. They have gassy or earthy overtones, as far as the terpene profiles go.
Our signature hemp strain, "Kimbo Kush", has a classical Indica effect. This kush hemp strain offers the typical gassy, skunky Indica flavors.
The effect is sometimes sleepy, leaving the user with a bit of "couch lock". Indica hemp strains are thus best suited for night time use and are great for pain relief and insomnia. They can also help with inflammation.
For those with chronic pain, our Blue Diamond strain is a great choice. It alleviates pain quickly, and the sweet berry terpenes add a calming effect. It tastes similar to blackberries.
HYBRID
So what is a hybrid high CBD strain? Well, you guessed it - a cross of a sativa and a Indica hemp strain. Depending on the cross, a hybrid hemp strain may lean towards Indica or sativa tendencies, or may share both qualities equally.
As far as hemp strains go, our "Immortal" is an Indica leaning hybrid in effect. But the terpene profile is very sativa like, with a pronounced grape flavor. It's great for calming down, but doesn't make you as sleepy as most Indica. As a result, it's fine to use day or night.
Immortal is relaxing and effective for pain relief. It can help with insomnia, especially if aches and pains are what keep you awake. It can also improve your mood and combat anxiety.
Some hybrids are just like their sativa mother, or their Indica father, or vice versa. It's similar to how people vary - you may look a lot more like your mother or father, depending on which genes are dominant. A hybrid hemp strain is a great way to experience the advantages of both. You get the anxiety reducing effects of a sativa and the pain relief of an Indica hemp strain, at the same time.
WHICH HIGH CBD STRAIN SHOULD I USE?
Now that you know a little more about each plant, you still might not be sure which one is right for you. It depends, of course, on why you're using CBD to begin.
In general, most people find sativa CBD strains are best for "the mind." Indica hemp strains are usually recommended for issues concerning the body. The best hemp strain for pain is an Indica, like the very soothing Sheeba. The best CBD strain for depression, on the other hand, will be a Sativa - in particular, one high in CBD like Lavender
How To Find The Best Hemp Products
No matter which one you pick, be sure to find a company you can trust before making a purchase. With hemp's new popularity, many businesses have sprung up selling smokable hemp as a legal alternative to weed.
But hemp isn't regulated by the FDA, and many of the products on the market are just junk industrial hemp. It's poorly grown, poor quality stuff that's labelled as "craft" or "artisan" to drive up sales. Most hemp farms don't have quality plants with carefully cultivated genetics, bred for the best smoke.
And that's a best case scenario. In the worst case, what you buy could be dangerous. Some companies offer Delta 8 products, but do your research before purchasing them. While it's legal in some states, the safety is debatable.
We don't offer Delta 8, because we don't believe it's safe. For that reason, we advise avoiding companies that do. We've heard horror stories of people purchasing "safe" cannabis expecting one thing, and getting another.
Another concern? Large farms rarely produce organic cannabis, no matter what they claim. Any health or medical benefits to smoking hemp are lost if you're ingesting a bunch of chemical, sprays, or pesticides in the process.
Here at Dreamland Organics, our stuff really is 100% organic. We keep our hemp crops small, so that we can pay the best attention to each one. We grow in living soil, and hand-feed our plants with compost teas. Dreamland Organics only wants to put the best out there on the market, unlike companies that are just looking to make a fast buck. After all, we smoke this stuff too!
Everything is then hand trimmed for the best quality hemp buds, slow dried, and glass jar cured for a minimum of 60 days. We've been in the business long enough to grow exclusive strains that we've cultivated ourselves for the absolute best and most desirable genetics. We sell products that "put some respect on your lungs!"
CONCLUSION
It's important to note that the tendencies of CBD indica and CBD Sativa high CBD strains are just general guidelines. There are several instances where these tendencies are defied in the genetics. That is to say, that there are actually Indica hemp strains that are uplifting and not sleepy, just like a sativa hemp flower.
On the flip side, there are some sativa hemp buds which may make some sleepy. Or may be great for pain relief. These tendencies we say define sativa or Indica aren't unbreakable.
Since the different strains also have different levels of CBD, how your body responds to each one will vary. You may find, for example, that Indica makes you sleepy, but only when it has a high level of CBD. Or you may find that Sativa doesn't always improve your mood - just one particular strain does. Every person is different, and how they react to a Sativa or Indica isn't "universal".
They are almost like stereotypes, where the descriptions may fit most, but not all. That is the beauty of nature, true diversity! We encourage you to try a hemp flower sample pack and see if you are an Indica, Sativa, or hybrid hemp head. Or maybe you like them all at different times?
