How Much Is A Half Ounce Of Weed? Dreamland Organics
So how much is a half ounce of weed?
With hemp-derived CBD taking off as a legal way to treat many common problems such as chronic pain, anxiety, depression, diabetes and more, it's only natural that more and more people are considering trying it themselves.
But if you've never bought hemp nugs before, the terminology alone might be enough to scare you off. How much do you need? What's an eighth, quarter, or half ounce? How many ounces of cannabis is too much? You don't want to look like a dork who doesn't know, right?
So you hide at home, trying to figure it out. Sort of funny how a hemp nug just might be the treatment you need to cure that social anxiety. But you can't get it, cause, well, social anxiety. Eesh. It's tough, we feel ya.
But no worries - that's why we at Dreamland Organics are here to help you sort this out. Even a first time buyer can know everything they need to feel confident and knowledgeable when they place their first order. Just keep reading, and we'll cover exactly how much a half ounce is - and other common measurements. You'll be able to confidently order in grams, eighths, quarters, or whatever size you need.
How Are Hemp Nugs Sold?
Here at Dreamland Organics, our hemp nugs are typically sold as an eighth, quarter, half, or ounce. (Some hemp flower strains are available with a wholesale price per pound but if you're buying larger quantities, you already know what you're doing.)
In the real world, it doesn't matter what you're buying, or who you buy cannabis from. Whether it's weed like Sour Diesel, or hemp like our Green Dream, everyone goes by these standard metric units. Previous cannabis consumers have no fear - everything you already know is still true. No matter what amount of cannabis we're comparing, it's apples to apples.
An ounce of weed is the same size as an oz of hemp. And a pot eighth (or 3.5 grams of weed) equals an eighth of CBD hemp. So if you've ever bought an ounce of marijuana in the past, you don't need to learn anything new to purchase CBD flower instead. The product might be slightly different, but they measure the same.
There's also no real trick to the measurements. An ounce is obviously 2x as much as a half. Similarly, a quarter is 50% what the half is. No funny business here - it means exactly what it says. You can convert ounces to grams yourself with any online calculator, the math is "standard".
All these measurements revolve around grams. This is the standard unit used to sell hemp-derived CBD. Even in countries that still use the Imperial system, like the US, it's always the metric system and grams of cannabis - whether it's hemp or weed.
So How Many Grams In A Half Ounce?
There are 14 grams in a half ounce. This is enough to roll at least 14 decently sized gram joints or hemp cigarettes. If you prefer to roll larger cigars, it'll be more like 7-11 (it depends on how large you roll them).
If you like using bowls, it's enough to pack at least 2 dozen. It's hard to say exactly, as it depends on the size of the bowl. There's no clear "standard" - a normal bowl could hold anything from .25 grams to a whole gram! A smaller bowl would be able to make a half stretch for more than 40 sessions!
What About A Quarter?
Like we said before, the math is standard. Since a half is 14 grams, a quarter oz is 7 grams.
This means you could roll 7 decently sized joints. Or even a dozen smaller ones! It would mean 4 or 5 hemp cigars. You can pack more than a dozen bowls, maybe nearly 2 dozen if they're smaller.
How Much Is An Eighth Ounce?
An eighth oz is the most common, "standard" size. If you go to buy hemp nugs at an in-person store front, this is what they feature. The displays you'll most likely see are of eighth oz portions. Dispensaries offer a variety of product, but they tend to feature gram eighths for all of them. Similarly, weed dispensaries use eighth of weed as their main seller as well.
The going price for an eighth of weed is currently about $30-$40. It varies - $30 is going to be the cheaper stuff, while good weed can easily cost $65. Region and area matters, as well.
Meanwhile, our hemp at Dreamland runs around $30 as the price of an eighth. And that's for high quality, organic, premium craft hemp.
How much is an eighth in grams? It's 3.5 grams. This makes around 2 larger hemp cigars, or 3-4 smaller joints. Or, you can pack somewhere around 6-10 bowls.
If the idea of rolling your own hemp nugs doesn't thrill you, you can always buy hemp pre rolls like these.
What Can I Do With An Ounce?
If we were talking about marijuana, an ounce of weed is the most you can possess in most states (if it's legal at all). Since hemp is 50 state legal, you don't have the same worries with our craft hemp.
It's worth noting that the price you pay per gram is largely dependent on the amount. For example, our Cannoli CBD hemp nugs are about $8 a gram. But buy an ounce and the price drops to only $5 a gram. Either of these prices are cheaper than the current weed costs in most states, however.
Still, a whole ounce is a lot. If you're wondering how much is an ounce in grams, it's 28, which is pretty hefty. 28 grams in an oz can last even a serious smoker awhile.
If you're not a regular smoker, it might be too much. We're talking around 30 (good sized) joints. Or 90-ish bowls, give or take based on how big your bowl is. The average smoker seems to use about a gram a day. This makes the 28 grams in an ounce about how many you need to last a month, exclusively.
But sometimes you know you like the strain and want to use it every day, anyway. If this is the case, buying by the oz is a great way to stock up and save some money.
What's A Dime Bag?
You've almost definitely heard the phrase "dime bag" somewhere or other. If you're not up on your lingo, you might wonder exactly what that is. In fact, you might have been hoping this article would mention it!
Well, we're not one to disappoint. So if you're curious, a dime bag is another word for a gram, or the smallest unit you could purchase. In many areas, the going rate for a gram was $10, which is where the phrase dime bag comes from.
It varies a bit from one region to another. Sometimes, a dime bag might refer to an amount other than a gram - but it still means the smallest size available to purchase weed.
And of course, it isn't always $10, that's just the average price. Costs anywhere, for anything, fluctuate based on what's available in your area. The price in Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Salt Lake City, Utah is not necessarily all the same.
As a serious seller of hemp-derived CBD, we don't sell "dime bags." But, hey, the more you know, right?
If you're looking to purchase a smaller amount, we do have a 2 gram sampler pack.
What's A Quarter Pound?
A quarter pound is...well, a lot. This translates to 4 ounces, or 112 grams. As you can imagine, this gives you a lot of options. I mean, we're talking more than 100 fairly large joints, or around 200 smaller ones. Similarly, this is like, 200-300 bowls. This is a lot of CBD.
The Difference Between Hemp And Weed
In case you're confused and wondering how we can sell hemp legally, let's explain. Weed or marijuana and hemp both come from the cannabis plant. Weed is illegal, though many states have medical marijuana exceptions. Still, you have to jump through a lot of hoops and prove need to obtain marijuana legally.
Hemp, on the other hand, has very low levels of THC. The THC content is what makes marijuana intoxicating - or what makes you feel "high".
Because hemp has low levels of THC (below .3%), it's legal to sell (and have) hemp according to the 2018 Farm Bill. It's recognized as being different from marijuana.
You can smoke it for the same health and medical benefits that weed is known for - most of them come from the CBDs, not the THC. And you won't have to worry about feeling stoned. But for the best results, stick to a full spectrum product like ours here at Dreamland.
What Is Full Spectrum?
Full spectrum means that our hemp is harvested with all of the organic cannabinoids and terpenes intact. Since it's left intact and we take nothing out, you get the full CBD health and medical benefits. This lets you enjoy our smokable hemp just like it was intended.
You may also experience the entourage effect when smoking our hemp nugs. This is what happens when all of the cannabinoids, terpenes and other compounds interact for an enhanced effect.
Why Is Organic Important?
Smokable hemp is growing in popularity as a way to treat a variety of issues. It can help with pain, anxiety, insomnia, depression, mood disorders, work as an anti-inflammatory, and more! Some studies are showing that it can even be useful for serious medical conditions like Parkinson's.
But if you're smoking to try to improve your health, you need to be aware of just what it is you're putting in there. There might be a lot of great benefits to CBDs - but if your product is sprayed with chemicals, are you really doing yourself any good?
That's why we take the best care with our hemp. Everything is Oregon grown and organic. We hand feed and grow in living soil. We want the absolute cleanest, best stuff – after all, we smoke this stuff too. You can read more about why our smokable hemp is top shelf CBD flower.
Our growers have more than 20 years of experience. This isn’t industrial, low-grade hemp. Our stuff is top-shelf, high quality product, raised more like craft cannabis – we refer to it as craft hemp. If you want hemp nugs that taste like quality craft cannabis, but legal in all 50 states, this is what you’ve been looking for.
We then use a slow, cold curing process, and hand trim the buds. Our premium hemp buds are carefully cured in a glass jar for a minimum of 60 days. We don't know any other CBD brand that actually glass jar cures their hemp buds, but at DLO, we spare no expense to create the best top shelf hemp buds online!
Everything is lab tested for safety and compliance with the legal THC levels. We want to give you smokable hemp that's great and healthy, so you can "put some respect on your lungs!"
What To Make Of It All?
Stick to smaller options, like eighth oz sizes, while you're trying new strains. It will give you a handful of joints - enough to get a good feeling of what you like, without being stuck with a ton of product for something you don't care for.
And if you're a casual smoker, eighth oz sizes tend to be much more manageable. There's a reason they're such a popular size - it's perfect for the only-occasional user.
However, you do get a better discount and price with larger sizes. So regular CBD users do benefit from making larger purchases (plus you don't have to keep replacing your stash as often!) For example, our Green Dream strain costs about $75 less when you purchase it by the full ounce. That's like getting nearly a half ounce free!
